Phase V - Residual Clearance or Interference

End Condition After All Pressure Is Removed

Two possible end conditions can occur. A residual clearance results if the case leaves contact with the chamber after pressure decays. A residual interference will result in some conditions with a radial force between case and chamber. The two figures below show the radial stress versus deflection curves for both interference and clearance conditions for cases with elastic moduli that are equal to or less than the chamber's elastic modulus.
