The CASAS Thermal Analysis must be executed prior to running the main structural analysis. It calculates the average temperature vs. time through the thickness of the case wall for each ring element. Inputs to the analysis include the cartridge case inside wall temperature vs. time data provided by the IBHVG2 interior ballistics analysis as well as geometry and material properties of the case and chamber.

The input screen is shown below as it should be completed for this example.

The only data that had to be entered were the Diffusivity values for the case and chamber. All other fields should have been filled with default values or data from other analyses. Diffusivity is defined as:

The user must enter this parameter and verify that all other data is appropriate for the problem at hand. When ready the analysis is run by clicking on the "Run Thermal Analysis" button.
