CASAS is a relatively complex analysis and an extensive compilation of data is required for a
meaningful result. The following is a summary of the required input data.
- A PRODAS *.pr3 file including:
- Geometric models of the projectile, cartridge case and barrel chamber. Case and barrel
components must be properly identified by their "Physical Function".
- An interior ballistics analysis must be completed to produce chamber pressure data.
- A case inside wall surface temperature profile (temperature versus time) must be provided.
- Breech bolt mass and stiffness
- Stiffness of the case base (thick-walled section)
- Material properties for the case including:
- Modulus of Elasticity and Poisson's Ratio
- Stress vs. Strain curves
- Coefficient of Thermal Expansion and Diffusivity
- Data for the above characteristics at several temperatures is helpful
- For multi-material case designs, data is required for each material
- Chamber material properties
These input data requirements will be discussed in more detail as we proceed through the input
screens for CASAS.
