Initial Conditions |
Now that we have our Control events defined and input into the respective interface windows, this section will explain the next two interface windows needed to run this example.
The Initial Conditions Window is where the user sets up the initial launch conditions used for the simulation. The various sections of the interface window are explained below.
Gun Setup - The user defines the Gun Quadrant Elevation,Azimuth and the MET file to use. The selectable MET include the 5 standard atmospheric definitions for military applications along with the capability to choose a user define atmospheric model. It should be noted that the Azimuth input for the gun is used to calculate the wind components (Tail and Cross winds) based on wind direction (If winds are present in the MET. For this example, set the QE at 25 mils, AZ at 0, and choose a STD atmosphere.
Projectile Spin Rate - The user can use this section to input the Muzzle Velocity, Gun Twist Definition and Exit Ratio (Ratio of Full Spin). Once these are set the user can then hit the "Calculate Spin" command and the program will automatically calculate the launch spin rate of the projectile based on the above inputs. The user can also input a desired spin rate in the data window. This spin rate will be the spin rate used by the trajectory for simulation. The values shown above should be input if not already present.
Projectile Initial Position - Allows the user to input the initial XYZ coordinates and Time the simulation will start at.
Projectile Angles and Rates - Allows the user to define the initial angles and angular rates at the weapon muzzle. The Pitch Plane is the Vertical Plane and the Yaw Plane is the Horizontal. Input these values as zero for this example.
