Formatted Output |
For now let's skip the "Results Table" interface and focus on the "Formatted Output" interface window.
The formatted output summarizes the stress and strain values calculated at each node. The summaries at the far right indicate which is the obturator node and which nodes have fixed values during the analysis. The "fixed values" definition will be explained in greater detail within the "Results Table" interface section of the tutorial.
Positive values in stress indicate tension loads while negative values indicate compressive loading. In general acceptable levels of stress within the penetrator are approximately 120% of the yield strength in compression and approximately 60% in tension. These boundary conditions take into account any possible transverse loading to the system due to in-bore balloting.
Using this criteria it can be seen the tutorial model projectile/sabot interface is adequate for the load conditions experienced in-bore. Nodes 6 and 7 experience the highest stress, which is 490 mpa in compression. That is equal to the penetrator's maximum yield strength as seen in the model editor and on the REBAR analysis tab. This is well within the 120% limit.
