Run A Trade Study

As we build and exercise the controlled projectile model, we'll be working with the Trade Studies tab extensively.

The analysis can either be run with MATLAB being launched, closing itself and returning the results to PRODAS all quietly and automatically in the background as was shown earlier in this tutorial for our ballistic run. Alternately it can be run in an edit mode where MATLAB is opened and user modifications can be made in either PRODAS or MATLAB. The simulation can be run when the user is ready by entering the appropriate command in MATLAB. In Edit Mode, the user manually pulls the data back into PRODAS for storing and viewing and also must manually push data from PRODAS to MATLAB after changes are made in PRODAS.

First, click the "Edit Mode" checkbox and note what happens. Three new options are now available. The first is to "Load and Open MATLAB". This starts the MATLAB application and opens the MATLAB files that have been stored in the PRODAS .pr3 file. Once MATLAB is open, changes can be made in either PRODAS or in MATLAB. The "Update PRODAS Inputs" button updates the MATLAB simulation with any changes that have been made in PRODAS.

The "Return Data from MATLAB" button takes any changes made to MATLAB code or to the Simulink model and returns them to PRODAS so they will be saved in the .pr3 file the next time a Save is done in PRODAS. It also returns results to PRODAS when a simulation is executed within MATLAB.
