REBAR is a one-dimensional structural analysis program designed to maximize achievable muzzle velocity of APFSDS projectiles by minimizing sabot mass. REBAR analyzes projectiles subjected to in-bore setback loads.
REBAR is a design tool that is capable of assisting the APFSDS projectile designer in characterizing several critical design parameters:
- Aft-most location of the first buttress groove
- Forward-most location of the last buttress groove
- Sabot profile to minimize the parasitic weight of the sabot
- Core buttress groove root diameter
- Material properties required for sabot and core
The Highlights include:
- Automated transfer of required data from prior PRODAS module analysis. This data includes Physical Property data including diameters, density, modulus of elasticity, and yield strength from the Model Editor along with downbore accelerations and gun tube properties from Interior Ballistics.
- Automated calculation of penetrator weight fore and aft of the forward and rear buttress grooves.
- Predicted stress and shear flow levels along the length of the Sabot/Penetrator interface are very close to levels predicted via Finite Element Method.
- Can automatically calculate sabot dimensions to meet user input stress level conditions.
- Simple capability for optimizing Sabot designs.
