BALANS Analysis (Single vs Statistical)

BALANS has the capability of performing two types of analysis, Single analysis or Statistical analysis. For most in-bore balloting analyses, both types of analyses are performed. The Single analysis provides an in-depth look at the structural integrity of the projectile and gun barrel interaction whereas the Statistical analysis results examine the end effects of the projectile and gun barrel interaction is terms of dispersion.

In general, the major difference between the two analyses is that a Single analysis is run for one specific set of initial conditions whereas in a Statistical analysis, the initial conditions are randomized and several Single analyses are performed. The Statistical analysis provides a more realistic set of results in terms of projectile performance because the initial projectile orientation in the gun tube can not be pre-determined.
